Money Laundering
Money laundering advice is now becoming key to an organisations
survival and success. It is quite clear that the Government intended
since 9/11 to regulate and control the movement of money through
individuals, their bank accounts, through business accounts and a whole
raft of financial organisations in order to curtail terrorist funding.
Our specialist financial knowledge and our access to dedicated
financial professionals allows us to deal with the all issues that are
relevant to cases of this nature. The Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 was
the Governments first attempt to do this. Since that time with the
implementation of the Serious Organise Crime & Police Act, the
burdens placed upon businesses who are regulated and who deal with
money, have increased substantially.
At JMW we were the first firm of solicitors in the country to set up a
dedicated Money Laundering Unit and we have an approved course (by the
Solicitors Regulatory Authority) that allows up to provide training to
solicitors in relation to money laundering compliance. We have
therefore all the systems in place and understand the requirements that
are placed upon a business.
With our expertise in Business Crime, we are able to offer very
specific and specialist advice in this particular field. Not only do
we represent, advise and assist organisations on their money laundering
policies and procedures but we also represent individuals if
accusations of money laundering are ever made.
It is important to note that all forms of financial transactions can be
regarded as money laundering if at any stage there is a belief that
that transaction is tainted by criminal money. It is therefore vital
that all systems and procedures are in place to satisfy both
individuals and organisations that they are not being unwittingly used
to further crime.
