It
is illegal to drive without having an insurance policy in accordance with
the Road Traffic Act 1988.
Magistrates
can fine £5000.
It an offence not to produce the necessary documentation when
required to do so by a constable.
Magistrates can fine £1000.
It is advisable to always keep in the vehicle or on your person the
following:
- current or provisional driving licence;
- current MOT certificate;
- vehicle registration documents;
- and current insurance papers.
It is against the law for licence holders not to supply personal
details when required to do so by a constable. The follwing documents must
be produced: a certificate of insurance or certificate of security; a test
certificate; goods vehicle plating certificate; goods vehicle test
certificate.
Magistrates can fine £1000.
Magistrates can set a maximum fine of £1000 for refusing to give
details, or for giving false details if the driver of the vehicle has
committed an offence.
