Causing Obstruction (Town Police Clauses
Act 1847 )
It is an offence to
cause an obstruction, annoyance or danger with a wagon, cart or
carriage.
It is also an offence
to ride or drive furiously any horse or carriage.
Contravention leads to
a maximum penalty at Magistrates of 14 days in prison and a £200
fine.
The Highways Act 1835
also makes obstruction an offence and leads to the same fines. Both of
these were updated by the Highways Act 1980 which says it is an offence to
willfully obstruct the free passage along a public highway.
Contravention of this
Act can lead to a fine of £1000 at Magistrates Court. The Act also makes
it illegal to hawk, trade or pitch a booth on a highway. It makes an
offence of depositing anything on the road causing injury to other users
or endangering them.
